George Washington’s Mount Vernon Extends Hours and Offers Special Activities

George Washington’s Mount Vernon celebrates the next presidential inauguration with special activities for the entire family! From January 19-22, Mount Vernon’s guests, ages 8 and above, will have the unique opportunity to look for clues and solve puzzles in a scavenger hunt that includes variety of locations across Washington’s beloved estate.

In the Ford Orientation Center, a display will feature forensically based life-sized figures of George Washington and others to illustrate Washington taking the oath of office. These wax figures show Washington taking the oath of office on a replica 1789 Federal Hall balcony.

Buttons from Washington’s inauguration will also be on view in the Orientation Center. Craftsmen made these commemorative buttons with patriotic designs and Washington’s initials. The buttons were sold at Washington’s inauguration in New York City.

From January 19-22, Mount Vernon has extended its hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Inauguration activities at Mount Vernon are included in general admission. Tip: Avoid the line and purchase an admission ticket in advance here.
