The World Book Day Celebration will flood DC’s Dupont Circle with books and roses this Saturday, April 23rd
The Sant Jordi’s ‘Book Fair & Rose Festival’ will return to Washington DC on April 23rd following the success of last year celebration. Since UNESCO adopted April 23rd as the World Book Day, Sant Jordi has awakened the interest of the international community. Our nation’s capital will thus follow the example of more than 50 cities all around the world, such as New York, London, Tokyo, Paris or Buenos Aires, that, once a year, join this Catalan tradition to celebrate books as an expression of creativity, literacy and culture; and roses as an expression of love.
With this celebration, the Casal Català de Washington wants to replicate this ancient festivity. Our plan is to fill Dupont Circle with books and roses and recreate the “love for books, books for love” magic of that day. From 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, this centric neighborhood will hold the rose for love festival and the books fair, that will gather a number of well known book stores.
This is the second time that this historical Catalan tradition arrives in DC. The event is organized by the Catalan community, with the support of the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, the Embassy of Spain in Washington DC, the Consulate General of Spain in Washington, and Spain Arts & Culture.
